Healing Ourselves While Helping Others: A Therapist's Unexpected Discovery
It’s fascinating how, in the process of helping others, we find our own answers. That's exactly what happened to me. While guiding one of my clients on her inner journey, she reframed a painful experience, transforming it into a source of strength. I was absolutely amazed!
There's a specific part of Rapid Transformational Therapy® called "IT´S NOT ME" where you view a past situation with your adult eyes and do what you couldn't do back then. This technique vividly shows you, in your imagination, that the struggling child who felt worthless, useless, and lost is no longer you.
When she went to school, the teacher told her to get into the room because she wanted to talk to her mom. As soon as she entered the room, she felt the weight of the students' eyes on her. It was as if she were a deer caught in headlights, frozen in place. She could almost hear their whispers, their silent judgments, like a chorus of disapproval. It made her feel small, insignificant, insecure, inadequate, ashamed, and utterly alone. She wished there was a hole in the ground she could fall into. She felt trapped, like she was in a box.
My client's ability to turn a situation of weakness into strength was truly remarkable. She was initially deeply hurt by the feeling of abandonment at school. However, her ability to transform that painful moment of rejection into a newfound strength was truly admirable.
As an adult, she imagined a different outcome, one where she faces the situation with confidence and resilience. She envisions herself standing tall, unfazed by the whispers, her head held high. She imagines herself walking out of that room with a sense of confidence and purpose, knowing that she was more than what others perceive her to be. She's come a long way from feeling empty to rebuilding her self-belief.
This technique invites you to celebrate your achievements and recognize the strong, courageous woman you are, and the potential you hold. It's a powerful tool to cultivate self-esteem and self-confidence.
You've survived and you know how, and that little girl needs to know that.
Hours later, I found myself reflecting on the session, and a memory surfaced of a similar experience I'd had. I could see it as clearly as if it were playing on a movie screen, and I applied the same technique with the same incredible results. It was such a relief to see my 4-year-old self finally release that pain by choosing a place where she felt safe, protected, and loved.
The experience itself doesn't change, but our perception of it does. It's incredibly revealing to view that scene with adult eyes, knowing that today, things wouldn't unfold the same way.
By reinterpreting the past with the wisdom of the present, we can heal old wounds and build a stronger identity. This is a treasure we all carry within us, allowing us to transcend and evolve.
This experience has been a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of our lives. By helping others, we often heal ourselves.
By embracing this transformative technique, you too can unlock the hidden potential within you like a phoenix rising from the ashes, we can emerge stronger, wiser, and more resilient. May we all carry the light of our inner child, illuminating the path to a brighter future.
